A dog's nose is the busiest part of them, and on most days it barely gets used. Food shows up in a bowl, it's gone, and that was the most interesting thing that was going to happen all afternoon.
The Tuffle gives that nose something to do. Tuck a handful of their normal food into the fleece folds, and getting it back out becomes the task. They nose it, roll it, work it over, piece by piece.
It takes about ten seconds to fill. Do it before work, at lunch, or the moment you walk in the door.
A bored dog is not a bad dog
Four in the afternoon. They're at your feet, then at the window, then back at your feet. Nothing's wrong. They've just got nothing to do.
Dogs read the world through their nose. Searching out food is one of the things they're built for, and a bowl on the floor skips that part entirely — it's over almost before it's started. Hand the same food back as something they have to find, and you've given them a job.
The Tuffle is a fleece ball with deep folds. Push kibble or treats down into it, hand it over, and your dog has to work out how to get every piece back out. You decide how hard that is — near the surface to begin with, deeper once they've got the idea.
It won't fix everything, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. A dog that needs a long walk still needs a long walk, and some dogs take a few goes before it clicks. What is a snuffle ball?
A soft fleece ball with deep folds you can hide food inside. Your dog uses their nose to find and work out each piece, which turns feeding time into a searching game.
What it is good for:
- Dogs who empty a bowl of food in seconds

- Puppies learning to settle, and older dogs who cannot walk as far as they used to

How do I use it?
Three steps, about ten seconds.
- Fill. Push kibble, treats or part of a meal down into the fleece folds. Start easy — near the surface — so your dog gets an early win.
- Hand it over. Let them sniff it. Most dogs start investigating as soon as they smell food in there.
- Make it harder. Once they have the idea, push the food deeper and use more folds.
Use their normal food rather than extra treats if you would rather not add calories to the day.
Which size do I need?
10cm suits small breeds and puppies — think terriers, dachshunds, small poodles, chihuahuas.
15cm suits medium and large dogs — labradors, collies, retrievers, shepherds. It measures roughly 15 x 15 x 15 cm.
If your dog is between sizes, go up. A ball that is slightly too big is harder to pick up and carry off, which is exactly what you want. A ball that is too small for a large dog is a choking risk, so please do not size down.
Both sizes are the same price, so choose the one that fits your dog rather than your budget.
How long will it keep my dog busy?
It depends on the dog, and we would rather not give you a number that turns out to be wrong for yours. A fast, experienced searcher will clear a full ball quickly. A puppy working it out for the first time will take longer. Some dogs stay with it start to finish; others wander off and come back.
What you can control is the difficulty. Food sitting near the surface is an easy first game. Food pushed deep into the folds and spread across more of the ball takes considerably more work to get out.
It is a nose game, not a substitute for a walk. Think of it as filling the gaps in the day rather than replacing exercise.

The Tuffle is a supervised toy. It is made of fleece, and fleece can be pulled apart by a determined dog. Swallowed fabric is a serious problem, so please stay in the room.
- Put it away between sessions rather than leaving it out
- Check it for loose or torn strips before each use and retire it if you find any
- Not suitable for heavy chewers or dogs who destroy soft toys

Used the way it is meant to be used, it is a simple thing: no batteries, no motor, no hard parts. But it is not indestructible, and we are not going to tell you it is.
How do I wash it?
Cold machine wash, gentle cycle, then air dry. Do not tumble dry — heat is what ruins fleece.
It will come out of the wash flatter than it went in. Give the folds a shake and a fluff with your fingers and it springs back.
Most people wash it every couple of weeks, or right away if wet food has gone in.
What if my dog ignores it?
It happens on the first go, usually because the game is too hard to start with. Try this:
- Let them watch you put the food in
- Leave a few pieces sitting on top so the first find is free
- Use something that smells stronger than kibble — cheese, chicken, liver treats
- Sit on the floor with them for the first couple of minutes
